I am very excited to report that I have finally found my fourth and final place to bake, on a voluntary basis, with people who I hope will have fun, learn, develop vital life skills and build self esteem through bread. The lovely people from Kid’s Company are going to allow me to visit one of their after school centres once a month, starting in September. I will be making pizza with a small group of children and we will be making pizza for everyone’s tea!
Kneading dough is good exercise, a great way to get out excess energy and agression, and a wonderful way to experience one of the great wonders of the natural world: combining flour, water, salt, and yeast; watching it grow; baking it; and using it to feed yourself and others. Providing for others (especially when it is something as yummy as home made pizza) is always a joy not only because you give pleasure but also because you receive praise.
