Hmmm. Not as good as yesterday.
It’s not that it was a bad day – just a kind of foggy day in so many ways. In fact, the fog was brilliant. Where I live we could barely see a few meters in front of our faces. Bundled up against the cold, fog gathered on our eye lashes as we set out on our bicycles. The bread was good: wheat sourdough with spelt and seeds proofed in a big tupperware box. Great texture, good sour flavour. So, what’s the problem?
Impatience. Impatience is the problem.
Two meetings did not result in anything particularly concrete and satisfying. No clear direction or opportunities necessarily coming out of them. One huge disappointment (nothing that cannot be weathered). I did a baking session with two lovely people who were on a date. They were delightful. This was their second date (arranged by the Daily Mail) and they baked bread together, demonstrating their personalities in what they chose to add to the bread (he added fennel; she added walnuts) and the shapes they made (he made four plump, round buns that looked a lot like breasts; she made longer, thinner buns that looked a bit like…you know….and I am not joking!). Seriously, it was good fun and I hope they get married and live happily ever after and eat lots of home made bread! Good luck to them.
But the Clink’s Book of Bread is coming along nicely. I wish I could illustrate. I cannot even draw stick people.
Lord I sound dull. Ah well, as Scarlet says, “tomorrow is another day…” and it is a day when I will see Camilla from Rude Health and also Helen from Penguin. So tomorrow really will be (another) better day.
How was your day? We are interested and would like to hear from you.
